Symposium in Memory of Gene Golub
February 29, 2008 – March 1, 2008
As part of a worldwide celebration of the life and memory of Gene Golub, a symposium in his honor was held on the University of Illinois campus in Urbana on February 29, 2008 (which, as a leap year baby, would have been Gene's 19th birthday) and continued through the morning of March 1. Please follow the links at left for more information.
Gene Golub was a towering figure in numerical analysis, not only because of his many fundamental research contributions, but also because of his personal role in unifying the worldwide research community in this area and establishing a spirit of openness, collegiality, and collaboration. As a native of Chicago and an alumnus of the University of Illinois, it is especially fitting that Gene's many friends in Illinois and throughout the Midwest had an opportunity to participate in this worldwide celebration of his life and memory.
